National Swimming Diplomas
The National Swimming Diplomas are issued by the Dutch National Water Safety Council Foundation (founded in 1984 at the government’s request). The National Swimming Diplomas consist of the Swim-ABC and the Swimming Skills Diplomas. The Dutch National Water Safety Council monitors the quality of affiliated swimming class providers. Do you want to be sure that your child receives instruction from qualified swimming teachers? Do you want your child to obtain its Swim-ABC? Choose a swimming class provider affiliated with and monitored by the Dutch National Water Safety Council.
The Dutch National Water Safety Council recommends completing the full Swim-ABC. Only once you have obtained Swimming Diploma C have you mastered the skills needed to have fun in a swimming pool with water attractions and in open water and to be able to survive in unexpected situations. You then meet the National Standard for Water Safety, laying the foundation for a lifetime of swimming fun and water safety. Swimming Diplomas A and B are intermediate steps to the Swim-ABC.
There are other National Swimming Diplomas in addition to the Swim-ABC. For example, your child can continue swimming after its Swim-ABC and obtain various swimming skills diplomas. Swimming regularly is important to maintain your skills, and of course swimming is a lot of fun.
Please note: only the Dutch National Water Safety Council can issue genuine National Swimming Diplomas. We regularly evaluate the quality of affiliated swimming class providers. Swimming class providers not on the list are not authorised to issue a National Swimming Diploma/Swim-ABC and are not monitored by us. Choose wisely. Your child deserves the best!
